Take a minute to familiarize yourself with what kinds of teaching jobs you can pick from. Each type of teaching job has different positive and negative attributes. - Public School Teaching Jobs
- Public school teaching jobs are your traditional teacher jobs where you work from 8am to about 4pm in a school. These are the jobs where you often have summer and winter vacation. In these schools you have grade 1 through 12. Most teaching jobs in public schools involve working with a co-teacher and class sizes are generally pretty big. Often there are no other foreign teachers at your school.

- These are teaching jobs in before and after school programs. In many countries and on most job boards these are the jobs that are most commonly advertised. Your schedule will depend on the age of students you are working with. The most common schedule is from 2 or 3 in the afternoon to 8 or 9 in the evening.
LEARN MORE - Private School Teaching Jobs
- These are your expensive schools. Similar to public schools, these operate in a 8am to 4pm type schedule with summer and winter vacation, the only difference here is that the parents have to pay a fair chunk of change for their child to attend a private school. Often there are more and better resources available to the teacher and students. Often these schools are looking for more qualifications from teachers and often there are higher expectations.
LEARN MORE - International School Teaching Jobs
- International schools are schools where foreign curriculum, often American and British but sometimes Canadian and Australian, is transposed to a school in a foreign country. These schools cater almost exclusively to foreigners living in that country. IE) The US Embassy has about 200 people working on staff in Korea. Many of these people have families and many of these families have children who need to attend public school. Instead of going to a public or private school in Korea where the medium of instruction would be Korean and where the curriculum would follow Korean standards, these kids attend international schools that have teachers from their home country, who deliver curriculum that meets standards from the USA, Great Britain or Canada or Australia.
LEARN MORE - Summer Teaching Jobs Abroad (May, June, July, August)
- Summer teaching jobs are often 4-12 week teaching opportunities where the teachers are employed to work 7 days a week in a camp environment. Often at the end of these camps a teacher will have a couple days to experience the country on his or her own before they head home. The nice thing about these camps is that they often involve a lot of activities that allow teachers to experience whatever country they are teaching in. Benefits and schedules vary.
LEARN MORE - Winter Teaching Jobs Abroad (December, January)
- Winter teaching jobs also often follow the camp teaching format but they are usually much shorter in length, often running only 4 to 8 weeks.
LEARN MORE - Short Term Contracts - 6 Month Contracts
